Families Matter
Children's Place has added a new program called Families Matter. This is a family strengthening program that works to eliminate or significantly reduce identified risk factors for child abuse and neglect and to enhance protective factors for families that results in stronger families and stronger communities. The program was established through a partnership with Growing Homes Southeast and the SC Department of Social Services.
By helping families begin using more appropriate parenting skills and practices, getting the support they need to overcome obstacles and acknowledging and working toward eliminating challenges in their lives result in an improved quality of life for families

Parenting Partners
Parenting Partners with Children's Place, Inc. provides a unique kind of mental health service to children and families. This program utilizes the Family Check-Up model with the University of Oregon and funded by the Children's Trust Fund of South Carolina. It addresses typical challenges that arise with young children before these challenges become more serious or problematic. The program model focuses on high-risk families, where normative challenges are more likely to lead to unfavorable outcomes, such as child conduct problems. Family Check-Up is made up of three home visits with a parent consultant who has been trained in the program model and has an advanced degree in psychology or social work. After those visits, the parent consultant makes recommendations for a family-based intervention tailored to the needs of the family, such as parent management training, preschool consultation, or community referrals.
